We kick off our new daily music blog with the lead single from from Interpol frontman Paul Banks’ forthcoming solo-album Banks.
“The Base” should appeal to Interpol fans, it’s brooding and wonderfully paced, but it packs plenty of surprising punch. The arrangement is delicate and busier than your typical Interpol fare. The riffs are sharp, the hook is seductive, and the track develops a slow burning sense of grandeur before confounding expectation. After beautiful low key break, that seemingly foreshadows a big chorus, the track suddenly explodes into a warped falsetto driven Lynch pop break down. Great stuff, if only latter day Interpol were this interesting. David Hayter
