Live Review: The King Blues (Glastonbury, Oxlyers In West)

The King Blues
16:00, Friday, Oxlyers in West

The King Blues killed it. Opening with the rousing and hefty one-two punch of “Last of the Dreamers” and “We are Fucking Angry”, they kicked up a storm among the usually passive Glastonbury crowd.

Despite an extremely hit-and-miss new album, the band have retained an impressively strong live show.

And they played to their strengths by populating the set with crowd favourites from sophomore outing Save the World, Get the Girl, and one cut from fantastic debut Under the Fog, “Mr Music Man”.

The band appear to know what works and what doesn’t, because the songs they take from new album are the stronger efforts, “Set the World on Fire” and “The Future’s Not What It Used To Be” delighting all onlookers.

On this form, they just might be good value for the sub-headline Lock-up stage spot at Reading Festival. [4.0/5.0]
