The Joy Formidable
14:00, Sunday, The John Peel Tent
30 minutes later than scheduled due to “some technical issues backstage”, The Joy Formidable finally took to the John Peel Stage to deliver a brilliant set of noisy melodic Shoegaze rock. Launching into “A Heavy Abacus” they relentlessly flew through a selection of songs from debut album The Big Roar culminating in an energetic rendition of “Whirring” which ended with Vocalist and Guitarist Ritzy Bryan manically twisting the knobs on her pedalboard before hurling her guitar into a Gong (yes you read that bit right). An excellent set, I for one will be making sure I’m up early and at the Main Stage for their opening slot on Saturday at this year’s Reading Festival. [4.0/5.0]
