Live Review: Friendly Fires (Glastonbury, The Other Stage)
Friendly Fires brought the party to Glastonbury. Ed worked that stage to the hardcore extreme. He deserves a round of applause for being a great crowd pleaser (nothing to do with the tight um arse at all, um), the crowd were treated to a massive early evening dance up to a mixture of Pala standouts and debut hits including the classics “Love Sick”, “On Board” and “Skeleton Boy”, with mini dashes of glitter foil being blown into the ever adoring crowd. Not only did Friendly Fires work their butts off, not a single note was out of place, everything was so so perfect.
Ed is a great showman, wrapping himself around the microphone cables while doing what he is best known for, raising the microphone in the air while sweating his heart out. Honestly I cannot stress enough, just how amazing Friendly Fires are.
Towards the end of Friendly Fires set, Hula girls, dressed in grass like skirts and flower bras came out much to the amusement of crowd during ‘ ‘Hawaiian Air’. The Hula’s danced around the stage, clearly loving ever single moment of if, who wouldn’t? It is Glastonbury, one of the most famous festivals in the world.
Ed ended the unbelievable Friendly Fires set crowd surfing to “Kiss of Life” where he completely rolled over his own head and it didn’t look like he was ever going to come out alive.
I don’t even remember him even getting out but I’m pretty sure security would have pulled the sweaty Hawaiian shirt back towards the huge gap between crowd and stage.
This was Friendly Fires’ moment, their set was faultless; a true must see act as when they grace the main stage of Reading and Leeds, you better start polishing up your dancing skills. [4.5/5.0]
