Tour News: Radiohead Don’t Intend To Play UK Festivals

Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien spoke with BBC 6music this week and fleshed out Radiohead’s plans for next summer, giving us an update about the UK in particular, which has been strangely left out of the band’s recent tour plans.

O’Brien made it abundantly clear that Radiohead wanted to play indoors as they feel it suited The King Of Limbs of material and that they are fed up of the British weather, possibly a response to their rain drenched set at Glastonbury this year:

He started by saying “I think the thing is what we wanted to do on this tour was, we haven’t played indoors for a while and I think the King of Limbs lends itself to a really good sound because it’s quite precise and quite detailed.

Before addressing the festival question directly: “So outdoor festivals probably aren’t the ideal venue for that. We are excited about being indoors, not being at the mercy of the weather, British Summer time.

Strictly Our Opinion: It should be noted that the O’Brien didn’t 100% rule out a festival date, and he has been known in the past for giving out information early that didn’t match up to reality later down the line. Not lying per se, but he has been the victim of the fluid nature of being in a band (remember him telling us there would be no new Radiohead material in 2011?).

Still he is 100% correct, The King Of Limbs is far better suited to being played in doors, and the band have made clear that they intend to play great chunks of it live, and lets face it, a mixed festival crowd is never going to take kindly to latter day comparatively obscure Radiohead.
