Simone’s Take: Camden Crawl, Stand Outs

You know you have reached the streets of Camden, when you see people in skinny jeans, tough boot and band T-shirts. However, this was not the average Saturday, oh no. This was The Camden Crawl where music lovers from all over the UK (maybe Europe? Who knows?) Come to watch the ‘next big thing.’ Over the years we have seen the likes of Amy Winehouse and Mumford and Sons storm the music venues of Camden.

Unfortunately for me (a non sun worshipper) I have to spend most of the crawl in beer gardens drinking myself silly while awesome bands are performing left, right and centre. I am a fool. I missed bands I really have a musical thirst for: Frankie & The Heartstrings, OK cheesy indie I know, but I heard from the sheer whispers that Frankie stage presencewas so hot, the stage almost melted. I say Forum get your-self some air con. I most certainly can see Frankie & The Heartstrings packing out the Festival Republic stage.

Another (man) band on my top list was Wolf Gang, no not OFWGKTA. Wolf Gang who has been working his way up the ranks recently supporting the likes of Florence And The Machine and Miike Snow. Once again I decided to have a band weekend off, hey it was a Bank Holiday, excuse me.

The only band I need managed to pull myself together for was my favorite local Camden band Tribes (recently signed). Who again left me speechless, it should be illegal to have seen a band over 10 times and still walk away like ‘WOW’. I hope Tribes play this summer, they would be an amazing addition sure to capture the Reading and Leeds crowd’s attention, but I sit here wondering where would they slot in?

Regardless, if Tribes are not booked, Festival Republic be fools. Tribes are creating the buzz to sit along side Arctic Monkeys (2005) with a dash of the cool London edge Klaxons (2006).

Strictly Our Opinion: Looking across the line up of Camden Crawl I can see a great deal of bands who could easily appear across the Reading and Leeds line up including:  S.C.U.M. Flats and Fiction. Not the biggest of bands, I know, but festivals are all about the smaller bands smashing the tents apart. Look at the headliners; the smaller bands will make or break this year’s Reading & Leeds festivals.
