That’s right your Festival Republic headliner Pete Doherty has been sentenced to six months behind bars after pleading guilty to Cocaine possession.
Today’s hearing was part of the ongoing investigation into the 2009 death of Robin Whitehead, the film maker and friend of Doherty.
Strictly Our Opinion: This is huge news for Reading and Leeds. As it stands Doherty would almost certainly be behind bars when he’s due to take to the stage at Reading and Leeds. However, he’s a celebrity and his used to dealing with the judicial system, he could well be released well in advance of the Reading and Leeds festivals (you can probably expect a suspended sentence). We’ll have to wait and see.
Either way this is a blow to Reading and Leeds, whatever you think about Doherty as a person, he has a big fan base and is a legitimate alternative to Muse and 2 Many Djs.
