Reading veterans and Lovebox headliners Hot Chip return with new track “Flutes”, the first offering from their forthcoming album In Our Heads.
“Flutes” contains plenty of classic Chip elements including their warm palette of sounds, but it also bares the influence of the recent movements in both post-dub step and r’n’b. The track is murkier, lower key, and more restrained than their usual fare, it would appear Joe and Alexis have been paying attention to The Weekend’s sublime cocaine comedown sound.
Speaking to Pitchfork Joe Goddard explained that he wanted the first taste of their new album to surprise listeners, explaining that “It’s a more ambitious song than other things we’ve done in the past. I worked on it a lot to make sure it’s constantly developing in an unusual way. I’m pleased with how it turned out.”
