Former Reading star Kate Nash has followed in Muse’s footsteps by alienating large swathes of her fan base with ‘Under-Estimate The Girl”. A raw American style alternative anthem that sees Nash rocking a new look and contrasting rough screams with drowsy drones.
The change in sound is certainly exciting, but whether the track is anything more than retrospective pastiche remains to be seen. Responding to waves of criticism Nash told NME:
“I believe it is important to push boundaries, to try new things, and not to re-create. Art and humans alike are supposed to grow and change. Jeez if I was still the same person I was when I was 16 that would be fucking shit!”
All will be revealed on Kate Nash’s as yet untitled third album. Nash pulled a similar ruse prior to therelease of 2007′s Made Of Bricks when she released the bassy and screaming “I Just Love You More”. The eventually album was more bristling pop than deranged alternative. We’ll see if history repeats its self.
