Friendly Fires Trumpet Player Dies

Friendly Fires trumpet player Richard Turner, who features in the band’s live sets, has died in advance of the band’s Reading and Leeds performance.

The 27-year-old trumpeter suffered a cardiac arrest last Thursday while swimming in an open air pool in Herne Hill, South London, before eventually dying at King’s College Hospital.

Friendly Fire’s issued the following statement on their website reacting to the news:

On Friday we learnt of the sudden passing of Richard Turner. Rich played trumpet in our live gigs on and off for three years. He was an utterly exceptional musician and his contributions to our shows will be hugely missed. He was also an accomplished and admired composer.

Strictly Our Opinion: Tragic news for Friendly Fires and Richard Turner’s many collaborators no doubt, but on a practical note his death should not effect Friendly Fires performance.
