The Top 100 Reading Bands Of The 2000s No.91: Foals

91. Foals

21st Century Appearances: 2010 NME Stage, 2008 NME Stage, 2007 Carling Stage

The Defining Reading Moment: Foals create a moment of serene tranquility when they unleash “Spanish Sahara” for the first time at Reading.

Foals are one of Oxford’s finest dance-punk infected indie rock bands. Setting the scene on fire with their heavy handed house party gigs. Playing full on smash the house up sets to four people (mum included) and a bowl of tuna pasta.

They use Synthesizers to layer their music creating a very unique sound of their own with sharp gritty guitar hooks and fastidious rhythms. With two smash hit albums under their belt with Antidotes and 2010’s Mercury Award nominee Total Life Forever, Foals know how to put on a show, and how to make people want to move.

Foals played Reading and Leeds in 2007, 2008 and 2010 bringing their chaotic dance show to the NME Tent. 2008 saw the crowd invade the NME stage with crowd surfers going wild for a piece of the Oxford band’s talent. 2010 saw Foals bring an old school rock n roll feel to their set, which was once again invaded. Foals are a true Reading and Leeds band, gritty and chaotic. Simone F.
