The Top 100 Reading Bands Of The 2000s No. 62: Eagles Of Death Metal

Eagles Of Death Metal

21st Century Appearances: 2009 Main Stage, 2007 Main Stage, 2006 Carling Stage

The Defining Reading Moment: Boots Electric strutting from one edge of the stage to another as rock royalty Dave Grohl (and family) watched on.

Whilst they may not be a Death Metal band, the Californian duo of Jesse Hughes and Josh Homme, are a hard rock band in the mould of Homme’s main band, Queens of the Stone Age.

However when playing live, Homme is not available and guitarist Hughes tours with three other members, currently including Joey Castillo on drums. Previous contributors to the band include: Dave Grohl, Jack Black, Brody Dalle, Mark Lanegan, Taylor Hawkins and Nick Oliveri.

It may sound like another QOTSA, but Homme describes them as having “bluegrass slide guitar with stripper drum beats and Canned Heat vocals.”

The band have played at Reading three times, starting off their Reading careers on the then-Carling stage in 2006, before graduating onto the Main Stage in 2007 and 2009, with Hughes telling the latter, “this is the biggest f*cking crowd I’ve played in front of.” Surely they’re on their way to bigger things at the festival.
