Thank You For The Feedback #1
So this week we decided to encouraged you guys to get in touch and tell us give us your opinion on a whole range of topics.
Pete Doherty:
The week started with the news that Pete Doherty would face a six month prison sentence (that would lead to him missing his Reading and Leeds headline date) but within a week we knew he’d be released just days before the event. Here’s what you had to say:
Strictly reader Callum Mcmullen proved prescient saying on the day of Doherty’s sentance: “3 months on good behavoir takes you 20th august and still able to play the festival.”
Doherty fans responded with a show of strength focusing on his music and not the man:
Christian Greenhalgh said: “I never really gave him a second chance, I just always listened to his music as my first port of call, so what he was doing never effected whether he deserved a second chance. I understand how many people get upset with him, but alot of them people have not delved deep enough into the stories and formed their own opinions. They just believe what they hear on the news.”
Joe Pape echoed Christian’s sentiment but with a note of caution: “Yes. Pete is great as a solo act, and Libertines and Babyshambles slots will go down in Reading history. He has lots of trouble with drugs and needs to clean up his act.”
Others simple raged at the preferential treatment afforded to celebrities, with Alex Humphreys displaying the most disdain: “I don’t see why just because he’s put out a few average records he’s suddenly better than every other junkie? he deserves a year at least, its not as if him being a scaghead is news to any of us.”
The Rolling Stones and Legendary Artists:
Late in the week the talk turned to classic rock as we asked whether The Rolling Stones and their 60s and 70s counterparts would be welcome at Reading and Leeds. The response was certainly mixed.
Facebook was pure positivity, with everyone and their mother backing The Stones and calling for Bowie, Led Zeppelin and William “Daft” Scott adding: “would love to see either bowie or even better the who, that would be incredible, maybe even Queen and Paul Rodgers ♥”
On the Official Reading Forum however things got more heated with Kowalski saying:
“No no no no no. Reading should not be the place to have legends for the sake of having legends. The Stones, Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Van Morrison, Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles etc. have a place in the world but Reading it ain’t.
Reading turning into a lame worship-fest like Hop Farm, Hard Rock Calling or the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury (“They’re legends!” ”But I don’t know any of this stuff.” “Who cares, they’re legends! Just wave your flag and look happy”) would be the one thing that drives me away.”
While OperaDonkey added: “I’m not convinced they’d fit the main demographic at Reading. I also imagine they’d be really expensive, I personally wouldn’t want them cutting into the budget for other bands. Then again maybe more older people would start coming to Reading and some of the drunk 16 year olds would stay at home.”
Uncool Acts:
We finished the week by talking about he uncoolest acts our readers and staff have seen live and together we came up with this prestigious list:
